Heavy-duty slurry pumps for a wide range of applications

KREBS proprietary suction-side sealing system


Prior to the development of the KREBS product line, slurry pumps experienced two major problems:


1. Flow recirculating back to the impeller eye on the suction side

2. Mechanical grinding of solids between the suction liner and impeller


Conventional slurry pumps can only solve one of these issues – but not both.


To stop recirculation, conventional pumps close the suction-side clearance with a full-face suction liner adjustment or by adjusting the impeller to the suction liner. The side effect of this is that solids build up in the tight gap between the rotating impeller and static suction liner, and are crushed between the two components. Mechanical grinding of these solids consumes power and wears the impeller and the suction liner. As these parts wear, the suction-side gap grows and the slurry is free to recirculate back to the impeller eye. This reduces the flow, head and efficiency of the pump.


Our unique design solves both the grinding and the recirculation problems within the pump. Our range of KREBS pumps feature a proprietary suction-side sealing system – the wear ring – that closes the suction-side clearance at the impeller eye, rather than the entire diameter of the impeller. The wear ring solution stops recirculation, while still allowing for a large gap between the impeller and suction liner – eliminating the grinding of solids.


As the pump wears, the externally adjustable wear ring closes the suction-side gap while the pump is running, restoring performance to an “as new” condition. Pumps without the wear ring feature either have to adjust the impeller and suction liner together (causing more grinding of solids) or increase the operating speed to maintain performance (accelerating the wear on all wet end components). KREBS pumps maintain design performance throughout the life of the pump, without increasing the pump speed. The wear ring feature extends the life of all wet end parts and reduces power consumption.
