What is it?
Together with the QCX/RoboLab® and QCX/AutoPrep™ products and the options available within the "QCX Lab Supplies" product FLSmidth can cover any degree of automation level within the laboratories ranging from a state of the art laboratory to the basic laboratory.
The "QCX Lab Supplies" product is a complete supply from FLSmidth of all equipment required for the above listed activities. The product is targeted at green field cement plants, where a complete new lab organisation is to be established. In addition to the scope here described, FLSmidth may also deliver equipment for the 24/7 routine production laboratory, whether this is a manual or automated activity. For clinker and grinding plants, special tailored packages excluding part of the equipment are prepared. The laboratory equipment is based on European EN and/or American ASTM standards, mainly EN 196, EN 197, ASTM C109, ASTM C114 and ASTM C150. However, local or other standards can also be taken into consideration if required.
Regardless of the level of automation for the 24 hour/7 days a week (24/7) routine production laboratory at a cement plant, there will always be a certain level of laboratory work undertaken by manual procedures. These are normally carried out in the day shift of the normal 5 day working week. At a cement plant laboratory these work routines may typically be undertaken in these locations:
- ‘Physical Testing’ room(s), where strength testing, setting time etc. are determined. Next to the "Physical Testing" room is an adjoining "Basin" room for storing the specimens in controlled temperature water bath.
- ‘Chemical Laboratory’, were various analyses are carried out. Typical examples are fuel analyses, time consuming wet lab test and alike. Some of the tests falling under the 24/7 routine analysis procedures may be made here. The facility may include a dedicated balance room.
- ‘Sample Preparation’ room(s), where samples for laboratory analysis are prepared and where different material properties are determined. Raw material sample preparation is a large part of the work load here.
