FLSmidth Roymec ROM Tips are strong, absorb impact, manage dust pollution and allow the large lump size material to flow freely through the system

  • Overview
  • Design

FLSmidth Roymec has designed and built several ROM Tips. A successful ROM Tip is strong, absorbs impact, manages dust pollution and allows the large lump size material to flow freely through the system.

It starts with a strong but efficient static grizzly design. FLSmidth Roymec has also designed and built dust hoods to control dust during the offloading on the run of mine onto the static grizzly. The bin design should incorporate replaceable liners and allow the material to be withdrawn unencumbered by a primary feeder. We have successfully used both apron feeders and chain bar feeders for the primary withdrawal.Secondary crushing and screening reduce the material size to further to allow overland conveyors to deliver the material to the main processing plant.

Several options exist for the retaining wall construction, although the reinforced earth walls appear to be the most cost effective.

The capacity of the bin shall be sufficient to contain the discharge of three dump haul trucks. A level detector shall be installed to shut off the power supply to the flight bar feeder in the event of the level of run of mine coal inside the tip bin reaching a pre-determined minimum height. The tip bin shall be lined with impact and wear resistant material (VRN 400), where impact may occur. The angles of the tip bin sides shall be such that no hang-up of material occurs.

The design of the tip bin shall take into consideration the flow of material so as to exclude any high wearing/impact areas. The outlet of the reception bin shall be of such a size and shape to ensure that mechanical interlocking of large particles will not choke the outlet.

Walkways shall be provided around the outside of the tip bin for safe access to all parts of the tip bin to allow for easy removal of the liners. The tip bin support steelwork shall be so designed to withstand the impact forces generated when a full load is dumped into an empty bin.
