As you drive down the street or walk the halls of a downtown skyscraper, know that you are supporting the iron ore industry—or, rather, that the iron ore industry is supporting you. Iron ore is the main raw material that goes into steel, which is used to construct buildings, automobiles, appliances, roads and a variety of other life-supporting products (both figuratively and literally, since most surgical equipment is also made from steel).

Simply put, steel is one of the single most important commodities in the world economy.
