FLSmidth Excel launches new Raptor XL 900 cone crusher

The new Raptor™ XL900 cone crusher leaps forward with a higher pivot point and larger crushing stroke.

FLSmidth Excel will launch its new XL900 Raptor™ Cone Crusher and introduce it at the CONEXPO-CON/AGG 2008 Trade Show in Las Vegas, March 11-15, 2008. This new model is an addition to its line of Raptor Cone Crushers and features high-performing, cost-effective solutions for medium- to high-tonnage aggregate and mining operations.

With its higher pivot point and larger crushing stroke the dynamics of the model XL900 cone crusher allow more crushing action to take place from the first nip at the feed opening and continue through until the material exits the parallel zone. The innovative design is perfect for quarries needing a large cone crusher as a secondary unit with a maximum throughput capacity approaching 1400 TPH (1,270 metric tons). The XL900 cone crusher handles feed sizes up to 14.57 inches (313 mm) up to a 4 to 6 reduction ratio, and has the most active feed opening, thereby providing better product shape and higher yields of saleable product.

The XL900 crusher uses a 900 hp motor, but is designed to operate and be mechanically sound at a wide range of eccentric speeds. The eccentric speed can be selected to maximize throughput, size reduction, product shape or product yield. The 1.8-meter (71-inch) crushing head uses the same eccentric motion as our other highly successful Raptor Cone Crushers. The XL900 cone crusher is designed with a rigid four-arm lower frame and an integral countershaft mounted inside one of the four arms. This provides a stronger frame design and avoids the common pitfalls associated with an external countershaft box.

The XL900 crusher can be installed to replace cone crushers with a 1.5-meter (59-inch) head diameter or larger without major modifications to foundations or feed arrangements. This facilitates the ability for producers and operators to increase their product capacity without major plant renovations.

Raptor Cone Crushers employ “Fail Safe” hydraulics through an internal relief valve within the dual-acting tramp release cylinders which ensures the machines stay protected from mechanical overload should an accumulator bladder fail. Another safety feature standard on all models is the counter-clockwise rotation crushing action which protects the machine if adjustment ring movement is excessive, or if the ring gear brakes fail.

All Raptor Cone Crushers use advanced overload sensing technology to detect crushing force overload. A simple alarm is activated, or the system can be automated to take corrective action if desired. The same advanced automation system can be used to optimize the crusher performance with feed control, setting adjustment and monitoring of critical lubrication and hydraulic parameters.

The Raptor XL900 Cone Crusher joins the growing family of Raptor Cone Crusher models, including the XL300, XL400, XL600 and XL1100 – the largest cone crusher available on the market today. Raptor high-performance Cone Crushers are the result of extensive research conducted with critical operator input. FLSmidth-Excel has designed these machines to keep producers and operators crushing at the highest production levels in the most demanding aggregate and hard rock mining applications around the world.
