New Global Manager of Cement Research & Development in FLSmidth
R&D investments are a very high priority in FLSmidth. As previously announced, it has been decided to strengthen efforts and results of R&D activities in both Cement and Minerals. The long term goal is to unfold synergies through a coordinated effort.
Kimmo Vesamäki, age 39 has been appointed to the position of Vice President, Research & Development for FLSmidth’s global cement activities, effective April 16, 2008. Kimmo Vesamäki will be member of the Global Group Management Team and replace the current head of R&D Gary Roy, who will take up the position as head of R&D in FLSmidth Minerals.
FLSmidth has conducted an extensive search for the R&D position and is confident that Kimmo Vesamäki is the right person to secure the R&D-activities a high momentum and a satisfying return on FLSmidths investments in R&D including the world’s largest test-centre in the cement industry. He brings the necessary skills needed to excel in this vital role from personal experience of taking out new patents to management of a large global organisation.
Kimmo Vesamäki comes from a position as Vice President, Product Management & Engineering, Construction – Contractor Solutions, for Metso Minerals based in Finland. He has worked for Metso Minerals since 1989 in different positions within design, sales support, product management and R&D with progressing responsibility and as Vice President since 2003. From 1993 to 1994, he worked for Valmet Avicomp as Production Control Engineer.
Kimmo Vesamäki holds a Master of Science in Industrial Management from Tampere University of Technology, Finland (graduated 1993) and has recently been studying management and business administration at IMD in Switzerland.
FLSmidth & Co. pursues an active research and development programme which reflects the aim of being the preferred partner and leading supplier to the global cement and minerals industries. The goal of this programme is to launch one new main machinery or process improvement to the market every year.
