Filtration testing typically begins in the laboratory using the Pneumapress bench filter. A sample is received from the client in either slurry or dry solids form. FLSmidth engineers then condition the slurry to the proper solids concentration and temperature, then perform several trials to simulate the full-scale process. The data collected is used to size the full-scale equipment and provide meanigful estimates of utilities required.

For mining and minerals applications, floataion and sedimentation test work can be performed prior to filtration testing in order to simulate equipment for the entire flow sheet.
Although laboratory filtration testing is typically adequate for equipment sizing, further testing can be carried out using the Pneumapress Model 1.3 Pilot Filter. The equipment is ideal for on-site testing, where the slurry is sampled directly from the process. The Model 1.3 is a fully automatic filter capable of continuous operation. FLSmidth engineers will arrive at the plant site and operate the pilot filter, collecting the pertinent data during a five day trial. On-site testing is a great demonstration of Pneumapress technology, giving plant personnel a first-hand experience with Pneumapress equipment.
