A migration agreement includes more than a software license agreement and is defined mainly by exchange of software platform.
A Migration Agreement therefore secures the system investment on a long term basis. Always being on the latest platform gives a protection against obsolete hardware and software. Furthermore it gives a secure feeling with fewer problems, new features which often leads to a better system performance. If integration with other systems could become relevant it will also be easier to handle from the latest version.
When migrating from one platform to another the system data and configuration must be converted and usually new IT-hardware will be required. The software on a new Windows platform is in reality a completely new product - with the same functionality.
For long-term insurance of the system investment, a Migration Agreement is therefore recommended, covering the Migration License subscription as well as maybe even assistance for conversion and implementing the changes on new IT- hardware.
If the customer has a Service Agreement with Remote Software Maintenance or a Preventive Maintenance Visit included, FLSmidth will naturally plan to carry out the installations of revisions and upgrades as part of the visit.
The two types of agreements are signed separately but fit together supplementing each other assisting the customer in keeping the system in best possible shape for future requirements.
The choice of service level depends on the customer requirements for assistance and the expected period in which he wants to secure the investment.

Avoid risk for trouble - Get assistance for the installation Conversion assistance is an option which not only deals with all the relevant software but also focus on an easy migration path. FLSmidth takes the responsibility for the actual engineering required for migration to a new platform. It will secure that future migration conversion tasks is included in the fixed price.
The conversion tasks by FLSmidth will include installation of the software release(s) on hardware either on site or at our premises. In order to do this we develop or use conversion tools to import the data required from one system to the other.
The customer must supply a data back-up for the conversion if changes have occurred since the latest FLSmidth back-up.
If it is a dual server based system there will be no need for plant stop-time, as the change-over can take place "on-the-fly".
Exchange of IT-hardware may be an option
Exchange of certain specific IT hardware may be offered. This is most often relevant every 3-5 years. We recommend the IT hardware exchange to follow the software release to make sure that the hardware can run the new software platform without any problem.
The conversion needs to be included and will take place at our premises, where it will be preconfigured and tested before it is sent to site.
FLSmidth will make a one-to-one exchange of the specific IT equipment specified in the scope document.
