The
QCX/RoboLab system also minimizes cross-contamination of samples and ensures shorter turn-around times.
The system integrates with an existing LIMS for automatic transfer of work orders and preparation information. Each sample is uniquely identified and logged into the system by use of barcodes. Upon completion, all relevant sample preparation parameters are transferred to the LIMS, thus ensuring traceability and minimizing errors.

Handling backup samples has become easy: Two types of backup samples are stored and identified by barcodes; a crusher reject and a pulp reject after grinding. The crusher reject being several kilos and the pulp reject less, all packed in airtight containers with unique identification.
The only manual handling of samples is when the operator prepares a rack of samples, introduces this into a drying oven and upon drying, queues this for processing by the sample preparation cell. The further processing of each sample is completely automated by the system without any operator involvement and the system can process several racks unattended. Though operating unattended, the system is constantly monitored and alarms will notify the operator in case of adverse events.

Once introduced into the preparation cell, samples are crushed, split and pulverised until the required fineness is achieved. Throughout these preparation steps it is ensured that samples are processed according to best laboratory practices. The resulting pulp sample is prepared according to an individual recipe, determined by the required analytical steps. Among these, some samples are automatically dosed for fire assay, minimizing human exposure to hazardous lead dust. The system ensures and documents correct dosing parameters, again according to best laboratory practices.

Although the system is automated, no compromises have been made with regards to ensuring quality assurance. Preparation steps can be verified by automatically introducing duplicate samples and similar to manual laboratories, the system can handle client specific reference material and/or certified reference material.
The system combines the best of two worlds: the world class experience of the Labtium laboratory and a state-of-the-art automated laboratory ensuring better working conditions and consistent sample processing, thus securing Labtiums position as a leading laboratory in the future.
