Clinker production
FLSmidth is also your One Source provider for everything associated with clinker production. And when it comes to these pyro processes, our customers say we’re pretty hot stuff.
The kiln is the heart of any cement plant – what the entire plant is dimensioned around, and where the main chemical reactions take place. So it’s critical to ensure an optimal temperature and optimal reaction time for optimal quality clinker.
Portland cement, for example – the most common type of cement – is made by heating a limestone and clay mixture in a kiln at about 1450° C until it becomes clinker, then grinding it to a fine powder and adding gypsum to control the setting properties. Clinker is a nodular material before it is ground up, ranging from 1-25 mm in diameter.
