FLSmidth wins expansion project in Peru
Cementos Lima S.A. has awarded a contract to FLSmidth for its plant located near Lima, Peru, in the area known as Atocongo.
The expanded plant will produce 15,000 tonnes of clinker per day (TPD), resulting in a net increase in capacity of nearly 4,250 TPD. Consequently, Cementos Lima will be better positioned to support Peru’s rising demand for cement resulting from both economic growth and the government’s plan for new investments in infrastructure.
Cementos Lima S.A.
Cementos Lima S.A. is Peru’s leading producer of cement. Founded in 1968, the company is based in Lima and produces cement for both the local market and export.
Flexible design offers value
During the contract discussions, the customer’s technical team, led by ARPL Tecnología Industrial S.A., and FLSmidth’s project teams collaborated to optimize the design. The existing kiln will be modified so that it matches the drive section of the existing 7,500 TPD kiln originally from FLSmidth. Not only will this enable the future commonality of spares, but this will also allow the current project to achieve a more aggressive schedule by removing the procurement of a long-lead item.
The modernisation will include a 5-stage preheater, with an ILC (In-Line Calciner), and a Multi-Movable Cross-BarTM cooler. A baghouse filter shared by the kiln and raw mill as well as a cooler vent ESP (electro-static precipitator) will also be supplied. The scope of supply for this contract includes engineering services, project management, training, and commissioning. Furthermore, the equipment was selected to minimize operating costs and ensure that all applicable World Bank environmental standards are achieved.
Successful history for FLSmidth and Cementos Lima
Cementos Lima and FLSmidth have a long history of successful projects. FLSmidth KOCH recently commissioned a new 8.2 km Pipe Conveyor System which connects this facility to Lima’s shipping terminal located at the port of Conchan. Prior to the upgrade, it was ncessary to have 200 to 250 trucks per day handle the transportation needs.
Execution
Execution of the project will be led by the US Project Office, in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, and will be supported by FLSmidth’s personnel based in the Andean Region. The new line will be commissioned in 2010.
