Technical Data

The 3-stage MAAG WPV bevel and planetary gearboxes, all of which are equipped with plain bearings, have an impressive compact design. This is thanks to the torque division in the planetary stages and the FlexPins in the second planetary stage.

Advantages of the PV planetary design

  • Torque split: the 2nd stage transmits only 70% of the torque.
  • Optimized force flow: achieved by the self centering inner gear and sun pinion.
  • Small gear wheels: through the use of the torque split and 5 planets in the 2nd stage.
  • High efficiency: 2nd planetary gear loss is only over 70% of the gear power.

Operating results
Over 25 MAAG WPV three-stage gearboxes between 2500 kW and 6000 kW have been manufactured and successfully started up to date. The current performance range of the gearbox goes above 8000 kW with a transmission ratio of above 1:60. Inspections of operational systems have confirmed that the design of the housing and the bearing design of the bevel gear stage were the correct choices. The load contact pattern on the gearing is central and has the expansion that is needed to withstand the stresses that occur. The WPV, the 3-stage MAAG gearbox for powering vertical roller mills, meets all of the high demands and expectations that are made of it and also provides an optimum solution with regard to operating safety and reliability.

Additional Components

Auxiliary Drive / Maintenance Drive
Auxiliary or maintenance drives are available to meet your demands. The maintenance drive is placed between the mill motor and the gearbox, whereas the auxiliary drive is located behind the mill motor. The maintenance drive is a low budget drive for build-up welding on the mill table, or for convenient replacing of the lining plates. The auxiliary drive can be used when the mill starting procedure requires a start with its help. It is equipped with a claw type overrunning clutch and a fluid coupling. The fluid coupling provides a smooth start up while the overrunning clutch disengages automatically when the mill motor has started.

Lubrication Unit
  
The gearbox is lubricated by a closed circuit oil system. The oil tank serves as a platform on which all the assemblies and components such as motor pumps (high and low pressure), switchable double oil filter, oil cooler and instrument panel are installed.
