Design

The outer shape of the DPPV gears with integrated torque arm and auxiliary drive for lube pump corresponds to the classic design used by most of the planetary gear manufacturers. The DPPV has an overall ratio (i) of approx. 76 which is adaptable at request.

Internally the DPPV distinguishes itself by far from all other designs. FLSmidth MAAG Gear applies with the PV stage its unique technology for epicyclical gears, which only a few other gearbox manufacturer are capable to apply. The PV technology allows a torque split within two planetary stages which allows building the gearbox as compact and reliable as possible. This is for FLSmidth MAAG Gear a common technology used also for the largest vertical roller mill gearboxes used in the cement industry. Today’s reference for a PV stage goes up to a rated power of 7.5MW and FLSmidths’ design capability goes up to 15MW.

Sun pinion and planet wheels made of alloy steel case hardened and ground with the necessary longitudinal and profile modification. Annulus made of heat-treated steel with accurately cut teeth. All shafts are bedded on abundant dimensioned anti friction bearings. The sturdy design covers main requests of highest compactness, small foot print and highest reliability of gears and bearings.

MAAG DPPV gearboxes are purely planetary gearboxes designed for the specific use as speed increaser in wind mills to drive a generator.
