World-class plant and lab pressure filters that operators love to use

"If we get more filters like that [the Essa CPF015] to replace the other filters, I will not take a vacation for six months."

It’s not often you hear lab operators praise pressure filters. Traditionally they have not been the most pleasant device to use in the met lab or plant. Bending to load and unload. Manually tightening plates. Difficult to access filter cakes. The ever-present threat of slurry violently escaping under high-pressure.

When we decided to redesign our range of pressure filters we were determined to make them one of industry’s safest to use. But they had to be trouble-free and easy to use too.

“It is ergonomically friendly”

“There is no need for excessive bending over to tighten items down”

“You know when it is secured”

“Drainage is upfront as opposed to the rear”

“The gaskets seat up inside the lid, in case of pressure release sample will go down as oppose to straight at you or towards the ceiling”

“No tools needed to tighten it down”

“It looks intimidating at first to use, but once you know how to use it, there is no going back to the other filters”

It seems we achieved this goal.

But what was bad? “We don’t have more of them”.
Why completely redesign our pressure filters?

Safety is paramount in any industry. When batch pressure filters were put under the spotlight in 2015 by the Government of Western Australia as posing a risk to mine safety, we were quick to respond. While we were confident that our existing design of Essa Pressure Filters did not pose any safety risks to workers beyond those expected using this type of equipment, we chose to forge a new path of safety standards that would give you more peace of mind.

We commenced a collaborative project to build improved products to satisfy any reviewed requirements of authorities and regulatory bodies around the world. Our metallurgical process specialists and product engineers worked with a firm of independent engineers to improve the design in terms of safety, ergonomics, productivity and longevity. User feedback was also valuable to make sure the usual challenges of operating pressure filters would become a thing of the past.

We’re confident that the new Essa® Certified Pressure Filters will be the safest and easiest pressure filters you’ve ever used.

Safety

Locking mechanisms on the lid clamping wheel have been added so no-one will be able to turn the wheel or open the lid while there is still pressure in the barrel. A shield around the base of the barrel protects you in case any liquid sprays out of the barrel while under pressure.

Ergonomics and productivity

The new user-friendly design gives you vastly improved productivity. This includes easy-to-use clamping as well as a rotating base so users can load and unload faster than ever before. Now, there is no need to tediously unscrew the base plate to retrieve the filter cake. The barrel easily lifts off the filter cake via a simple lever arrangement. This enhanced accessibility to the cake guarantees you a much lower risk of contamination or loss of sample.

Longevity

We’ve made our Pressure Filters even more durable by building them almost exclusively with stainless steel materials and fittings and giving them an extra tough finish. This means you can use and rely on them long term, even in corrosive or damp conditions.

User-friendly, superior performance

We know the challenges of staying on top of regulatory compliance. When you have a busy lab or mineral processing plant to run, you don’t want the hassle of regulatory issues slowing you down. Even more importantly, when it comes to high pressure vessels, you need to know your workers are safe at all times.

The new line of Essa Certified Pressure Filters was purposefully designed and built to make filtering of fine samples quicker and safer.

Released to the market in 2017, the innovative and improved product has already proven itself to be the best in class.

Worldwide compliance: satisfying Pressure Equipment Directive 2014/68/EU, ASME VIII and AS 1210
Have peace of mind knowing that your pressure filter meets global standards, including the newly updated Western Australian regulations for pressure vessels.
Guards and locking mechanisms to protect workers
Including a protective spray shield, so workers can’t be sprayed if the bottom seal breaks. New locking mechanisms also mean you can’t open the barrel while it’s pressurised.
Makes filtering fine samples quicker

Essa Certified Pressure Filters are highly productive because they are so easy to use. A simple lever arrangement helps you lift the barrel straight off the filter cake. Reach the controls comfortably and easily, and load and unload simply thanks to a rotating base.

The units can operate at pressures up to 1380 kPa (200 psi), speeding up the filtering of less compactible materials.

Choose from two different capacities without compromising on functionality

ESSA CPF015 Certified Pressure Filter

The Essa CPF015 Certified Pressure Filter quickly and safely filters slurry samples, reducing sample preparation time and increasing productivity. It is floor-mounted, making it stable and reliable. Use it in general laboratory and plant operations.

The unit is rated to accept up to 1380 kPa (200 psi) air pressure, and with a handling capacity of 15 L, the CPF015.

The design code is ASME VIII Division 1 – 2015. Hazard level (as per AS 4343): D

The lid clamping wheel is fitted with an interlock mechanism to protect you from turning the wheel and releasing the lid while the barrel is still pressurised.

ESSA CPF035 Certified Pressure Filter

Use the large capacity Essa CPF035 Certified Pressure Filter for large volume metallurgical test work and batch processing. With a handling capacity of 35 L, it filters samples quickly and is easy to operate. It’s also rated to accept 1380 kPA (200 psi) air pressure. The design code is ASME VIII Division 1 – 2015. Hazard level (as per AS 4343): C

Fabricated primarily of heavy-duty corrosion-resistant stainless-steel materials, the CPF035 is floor-mounted, extremely reliable and features superior ergonomics for ease of use. Differing from the smaller-volume unit, the CPF035’s clamping wheel is located at the front rather than the top and is assisted by a gearbox. The lid clamping wheel is fitted with a lockout sprocket ratchet mechanism. This prevents anyone from turning the wheel to release the lid while the barrel is still pressurised. When the air pressure is expelled from the barrel via the discharge ball valve, the lockout sprocket is mechanically released, so you can safely raise the lid.
