Achieve accurate sub-samples, every time

Looking for reliable sub-samples without the doubt of whether you’re really doing it right? Many sampling techniques in general use are inefficient and will not deliver the accurate sub-sample you need. It is difficult to obtain a representative sample from a heap by scoop sampling or by repeated cone and quartering. Repeating halving using a riffle splitter is more reliable but prone to operator bias. The rotary sample divider, or spinning riffler, is the best technique by far and produces the most reliable results.

Our rotary sample dividers (RSD) make accurate, uniform sample division easy to achieve.

For more than 25 years, our RSDs have been dependably producing representative sub-samples according to internationally recognised sampling protocols. You’ll find them at work in geochemical and research laboratories, industrial applications, and port sampling across a host of industries.

With our RSDs, proven technique goes hand-in-hand with clever design features to give you fit-for-purpose, representative samples in the most efficient way possible.

Our range includes:

  • Essa Rotary Sample Dividers – Bucket Type (RSD Series): the entire sample is divided into uniform sub-samples.
  • Essa Rotary Sample Dividers – Residual Type (RSDR Series): excess material is either captured in a discharge container or removed via conveyor.

Meeting industry standards easily and efficiently

Essa Rotary Sample Dividers offer everything you need in a sub-sampling device.

Consistent representative sampling
Improving the accuracy of your analysis is what makes our engineers tick. To ensure you get a truly representative sample, we’ve fitted our rotary sample dividers with vibratory feeders that deliver the samples at a highly consistent rate, improving the reliability of the sub-sample. Plus, they can be easily adjusted to allow for the minimum number of rotations required for accurate sampling.
Efficiency
We also understand that time is of the essence in your laboratory. That’s why we’ve designed our dividers to capture samples in a way that saves on handling and clean-up, speeding up your throughput. With outstanding safety features and ergonomic design, your operators will find these units a breeze to use.
Versatility
A wide range of standard hopper and bucket sizes easily handle whatever volumes and percentages you need to sample. The units are designed to take one or more buckets, according to your requirements.
Ergonomic, hard-wearing design
Easy-to-use controls, in-built dust covers and convenient features like lockable castors make the units simple and safe to use. Sturdy stainless-steel construction of components in contact with sample means these units will remain durable whilst minimising contamination.

Improve your efficiency and sample quality, whatever your application

Essa RSD Series Rotary Sample Dividers – Bucket Type

Traditional sampling methods, like cone and quartering, can be time-consuming and involve significant clean-up – and still provide you with inferior split. With the Essa RSD Series Bucket Type Rotary Sample Dividers, the whole sample is split and retained, giving you reliable results with a minimum of fuss.

Essa RSD Series Rotary Sample Dividers – Residue Type

Like the RSD bucket-type unit, the Essa RSDR sample divider is designed to increase your productivity. It offers the same sample reliability, while neatly capturing the sample residue, so you save on labour time.

Efficient

The sample is fed from the hopper at a controlled rate to create a falling stream. One or more buckets rotate under the stream capturing the required percentage of the sample, while the remainder of the feed passes through to a discharge system – either a mechanical conveyor belt, or a handy removable collection bucket. Clean up is easy, with the RSDR unit neatly and cleanly capturing the unwanted portion of the sample.

In addition, the simplified bucket positioning system reduces load time between samples. Plus, you are handling less buckets – less buckets to load, unload and clean. All this means you can confidently process more samples in less time.

RSDR sample dividers can also be adapted for automated installations, for the ultimate in sampling efficiency.

Versatile

Different sized buckets can be fitted to vary the percentage captured, according to your needs. If two, or up to 12, separate cuts are required, more buckets can be added. Buckets are available in a range of convenient standard cut designs of 5%, 10%, 12.5%, 15%, 20% and 25%. A range of hopper sizes is also available, from 10 L to 60 L, to cater for whatever your sample volume might be.

High quality samples

Our rotary sample dividers have been in operation for decades, giving you confidence that their proven technology will produce high quality samples to meet internationally recognised sampling protocols. The sample splitting method ensures representative sub-samples. And the buckets have a dust cover to protect them from sample loss and cross contamination.

Trouble-free operation

Your laboratory depends on equipment that works, without the hassle. The RSDR uses a reliable electric motor, with user-friendly controls. Another useful feature is the safety switch that disables the machine if the cover is lifted during operation. And the RSDR is built to last, with the hopper, buckets and reject chute made from anti-corrosive stainless steel.
