Mining centrifuges for efficient separation and dewatering

The efficiency and reliability of your separation equipment can have a huge impact on your profitability. We offer a comprehensive range of centrifuge systems for coarse and fine material separation and dewatering, including screw-style and basket-style, our popular screenbowl centrifuge, and a variety of solidbowl centrifuge configurations.

FLSmidth centrifuge benefits

§   Easy operation

§   High capacity and efficiency

§   Proven separation and dewatering results

§   Easy maintenance

As the world leader in coarse coal centrifuges, our VM range of basket centrifuges has withstood the test of time. In fact, our proven VM1650 is the world’s largest high-capacity coarse coal centrifuge. VM coarse coal centrifuges are flexible in operation and can be adjusted to be ideal for coal of a variety size ranges, including:

§   nominally less than 50mm and greater than 0.5mm in size.

§   nominally less than 12mm and greater than 0.5mm in size.

The feed can come from a variety sources, such as dense-medium cyclone product screens.

These VM centrifuges operate with a horizontal, rotating, perforated (screen mesh) basket. Feed slurry enters the centrifuge and is distributed to the basket surface. The basket’s rotational g-forces push the slurry against the surface of the basket, where the solids are held in place. The water is able to filter through the thin bed of solids and exit the centrifuge through the holes in the basket surface to be discharged. Dual vibration motors produce a highly controlled, rapid vibration stroke in the basket, which moves the solids a small distance down the basket with each stroke, until they finally discharge as dry product.

Our FC vertical and HFC horizonal fine-coal basket centrifuges are used to dewater products that include fine coal nominally less than 6 mm, products from our REFLUX™ classifier, and coal spiral products nominally less than 2 mm and greater than 0.1 mm in size. These fine centrifuges have a horizontal or vertical, rotating, perforated (screen mesh) basket, within which resides a rotating scroll with screw design fins. The feed slurry enters the centrifuge and is distributed to the surface of the basket. The basket’s rotational g-forces push the slurry against the basket surface, where the solids are retained. The water is able to filter through the thin bed of solids and exit through the holes in the basket surface to be discharged. The action of the scroll moves the solids down the basket to discharge as dry product.

Our decanter solidbowl centrifuge is commonly used to separate, clarify or classify coarse solid particles from liquid in the mineral, chemical, food, rendering, and industrial or

municipal wastewater industries. Comprising a horizontal, rotating cask or bowl, within which resides a rotating screw, the feed slurry enters the bowl, and its rotational g-forces push the solids to the outside. The action of the screw moves them to discharge, as the liquid moves in the opposite direction to exit at the other end of the centrifuge.

In coal and mineral preparation plants, the fact that water is typically used in separation procedures necessitates dewatering of the products prior to the next process or stage. For dewatering of particles finer than 1 mm, screenbowl centrifuges are ideal. Screenbowl centrifuges are also used in chemical processing.

With all of our centrifugation products, we offer advanced designs and hands-on assistance from our highly qualified team to ensure prompt and accurate advice on process applications, installation, spare parts and service.
