In December 2002, after thorough consideration and market studies, Holcim's Board of Directors decided to go ahead with the project.
-
FLSmidth won the order and a letter of intent was signed on 20 March 2003.
-
The production was stopped on February 2004. The dismantling of existing equipment and the civil works then began.
-
The installation of the new FLSmidth equipment began two months later in April 2004.
-
In August 2004 the first flame in the kiln was lit.The commissioning period then began.
-
The plant came on-stream and was officially inaugurated on 23 September 2004. This happened during the peak period of cement consumption in Slovakia.
The process designers are the first engineers involved in the project during the contract negotiations
The aim was to agree on the equipment to be used and to find the appropriate solutions for Rohoznik.
-
FLSmidth and Holcim are well acquainted with each other.
-
Each party knew the other one's working methods, so it was not necessary to discuss all the details.
-
This left greater scope for discussion of solutions and development options.
For example, the preheater was a major point in the discussions. Should one replace the whole preheater tower or merely a few elements of it?
The solution chosen was to remove the entire tower apart from the foundation and the lower deck on which the new structure has been built.
