The customer wished to make an early start on the site work. Therefore both civil design and machinery layout were initiated immediately after the contract became effective.

Civil design
FLSmidth was responsible for the civil design of the Obajana project, comprising

• A complete set of drawings
• Calculations of building structures
• Calculations of concrete foundations
• Calculations of steel structures

This enabled Julius Berger, the customer's selected building contractor, to do the construction work.

Plant and machinery layout
30,000 tonnes of equipment consisting of 4,000 components and machines represent a massive workload.

• An ftp site was established to facilitate easy transfer of drawings and other technical documentation.
• A database management system was developed specifically for the Obajana, enabling the customer to sort his output according to equipment, departments, etc.

Drawings and erection/installation documentation were only one click away and could be exported to Excel, viewed electronically or printed as hardcopy.
