| Conversion of ESP to Hybrid Filter |
| Airtech's approach to converting existing ESP to a Hybrid Filter. In a Hybrid solution, most of the dust is collected by the precipitator part at the inlet of the installation and, therefore, the dust load to the fabric filter part is much lower than it would be if a fabric filter was installed. This results in lower wear on the bags, a reduced cleaning cycle by compressed air, and through this a longer lifetime of the bags. Further, when the dust load on the bags is reduced, the pressure drop across the bags is also reduced, which results in lower power consumption for the fan after the filter. Download |

| Thiry-five (35) year old ESP upraded to meet todays emissions standards. The goal was to achieve an emission not higher than 30 mg/Nm3. The company also demanded a short shutdown period. Based on our wide experience with cement mills and outstanding knowledge on filter designs, a hybrid filter solution was chosen. | FLSmidth Airtech supplies two different systems of water injection, one is a one phase flow back system. and the other a two phase system where water and compressed air are mixed. By using the two phase system, the droplets get smaller and the nozzles are exposed to less wear. The water injection is controlled by the thermodynamic system developed by FLSmidth Airtech. The thermodynamic control is faster and more exact than a traditional regulation system. Furthermore, it can automatically open and close lances according to the gas flow and temperature of the gas entering the tower. The water evaporates in the tower and thereby conditions the flue gas. | One of the reasons for the high efficiency of Airtech's -GSA is that the reactor has been based on gas suspension technology. This means that a very large concentration of fly ash, dust particles and lime builds up inside the reactor. The concentration is normally 50 to 100 times as high as in a conventional reactor. The effect is further enhanced by the fact that lime, fly ash and by-products are cycled about 100 times in the GSA system. A short erection period is achieved due to a modular design, offering enormous flexibility. Maintenance costs are extremely low compared to more conventional plants. One reason for this is the minimal wear and tear due to few moving parts and a very simple, uncomplicated and stationary nozzle. Download |

| The Cementos Bayano, S.A plant located in Panama was operating with an old Electrostatic Precipitator (ESP) that was yielding a high level of particulate emissions. The plant was looking to reduce the emissions to below 45mg/m3 by upgrading the existing system. FLSmidth Airtech was invited to the plant to analyze the problem and provide options for achieving the plant’s goals.The main goal of the conversion was to maintain emissions below the guaranteed level, while reusing as much of the existing system as possible, thus minimizing capital cost and kiln downtime. | The electrostatic precipitator (ESP) is known to the steel production industry as the preferred de-dusting equipment for sinter strands. A way to improve the efficiency of a precipitator is installation of pulse systems as power supply, where ultra short (microsecond) pulses are applied to achieve a more efficient precipitation of especially very small high resistivity dust particles. By applying pulse systems, existing ESP’s can be improved without physical enlargement, or new ESP’s can be installed with smaller dimensions than ESP’s with traditional DC power supplies.
